Speedwork
UUUGGGGHHHH. Until last night, I had forgotten just how painful (yet beneficial) speedwork can be in training for races. Colin and I decided to go to a grassy field and do a "ladder" workout of 3 min. hard 3 min. rest X 2, then, while keeping the 3 min. rest period, doing 4 min hard, 5 min hard, 4 hard, then 3 hard X 2 to finish. While this might not sound terribly difficult to the non-running crowd, if you ever want to truly push yourself to the point of puking, try it sometime. Just FYI, we were running 6:50 mile pace for alot of it, and never lower than 7:20. Again, doesn't SOUND too bad, but try it on grass sometime. Hopefully, the benefits will come in the form of lower 5K/10K times, and a better fitness level for the marathon training to come, starting Aug. 1st.....
