The marriage question....?

Yahoo has posted an interesting article on the state of marriage in this country. We all have heard of the divorce rate topping 50% several years back. Well perhaps an even more telling statistic is the new data revealing 50.2 percent of households in America do not involve married couples. This is an interesting trend in that it perhaps signals the TRUE sentiments that marriage is becoming an antiquated arrangement.

Stranger things have happened. I know the human race likes to think it has to be "civilized", and marriage is seen as a "civilized" thing to do (in addition to the religious quality given to it by some people). But we are truly one of the very few species that even attempts to single out a mate and stay with them for an extended period of time. Looking at it from a biological standpoint, this action is actually counterproductive to "spreading the gene pool". Not that I'm suggesting we should be randomly impregnating women all over the world, but it just points out that the very act of marriage is biologically unnatural.

I don't think we'll see marriage disappear completely, but it wouldn't surprise me if within the next 50-100 years that it becomes a vast minority thing to do. Hell, perhaps our children will see marriage as just "something religious folk do". The next bunch of years bear watching to see exactly how this all plays out...
